Close your eyes and picture yourself relaxing on soft white sand, your hair tousled by a steady breeze, with an emerald sea lapping gently at your feet. Now open your eyes.
"Way to go, Tiff. You made the right choice - Anguilla!"
In this tony winter escape there are dozens of Anguilla beaches studded with upscale resorts, so you'll find plenty to do, especially in that new bikini you bought for the trip. But don’t forget your Gucci sunglasses and a high-rated sun-block, 'cause this 'sun & fun' haven shines just about everyday of the year. It’s a perfect place to slip away to when those frigid days back home seem to hang on forever.
All Anguilla beaches are public but often empty, so you and your partner may find you have an entire beach to yourself. Nevertheless, the dress code is island formal, that is, casual but everything covered. Sorry nature buffs, this island's not for you.
Shoal Bay East is the island’s most popular beach with good reason. The water is calm and clear and the sand scintillatingly white. For fin-flappers there's a reef not far out that's filled with sea-life. You can also find sea-life at local beach bars - the 'crisp and delicious' kind - with an ice-cold beer or a cool drink and music of course.
Sandy Ground, Anguilla's main port, is often filled with yachts. This active strip of sand is the spot for nightlife, where you can meet other escaped snow-birds who frequent the bars and restaurants there.
Rendezvous Bay, the longest beach on the island, is one of the least visited. So if you're an early riser and want a quiet place to unwind, it's the ideal spot. How about a nice long walk before that morning swim and breakfast?

| Let's keep it safe out there! Because ocean conditions change daily, follow these rules: (1) Always check with 'locals' about hazards before entering the water, (2) Obey all 'warning flags', (3) Swim inside 'safety areas' provided, (4) Never swim alone, and (5) Never swim far out. Finally, when in doubt, don't go in. | |||||||
