Polynesian Beaches

Looking for a nice secluded beach where you can get away from the career intrigues you’ve been caught up in lately? Want it to be memorable and very unique? Then Tahiti and its neighbor islands may be exactly what you're looking for.

Still relatively unspoiled, this farthest outpost of tourism is considered off the beaten path by most. But it’s only an eight hour flight from LA and less than that from Sydney. So read a book or watch a few movies and you’ll be there in no time. The time spent getting there will seem well worth it when you step off that plane and feel those gentle trade winds.

You’ll marvel at the incredibly green mountains rising precipitously out of surreal blue seas. Suddenly you may not recall what sent you on this odyssey in the first place. That’s it, take a deep breath of pure ocean air; time to relax, unwind and let the quiet ebb and flow of this earthy paradise soothe your frazzled nerves.

But where does one plot the next corporate coup, you ask? Moorea is only 45 minute by ferry from Papeete and has several excellent beaches on which to plan your next inspired move. However, should the process require more seclusion, head to Raiatea where you can explore uninhabited ‘motus’ or islets, many of which have remained undisturbed for centuries. But be advised, you may run into those who came to this paradise just to have fun. Why not join them?

"C’mon, Millicent, your ol' board room coup can wait. You only live once darlin'."

Why not head for Bora Bora, less than an hour flight away, and experience one of the most beautiful beach settings on earth? Where else can you find such lush curtains of green tumbling into crystal blue seas? If there is an Eden on Earth, this must be it. Of course, the top resorts have all the best beaches - that figures, doesn't it? And if you need a secure place to sort out the next corporate coup, you can slip away to the islet Motu Tapu for a little Polynesian beach privacy.

Still can’t get those intrigues out of your head? Then don’t fight it. Head over to Bounty Beach on Tetiaroa where Fletcher Christian plotted the capture of his ship in "Mutiny on the Bounty", and plot a mutiny of your own. But timing is everything, and this atoll privately held by the estate of Marlon Brando, another famous mutineer, won’t entertain your bids until the five-star resort "Brando" opens in 2008. In the meantime try to relax and enjoy the moment.

Lying on this Polynesian beach with a green mountain backdrop and swaying coconut palms you can almost feel time stand still. Live for the moment. Lay it down at the Sofitel Ia Ora.

A five-star beach for a five-star resort. The 'Intercon' people aren't exactly dolts when it comes to selecting a location. They have one of the finest in Bora Bora.

Le Meridien Bora Bora has a perfect beach at their five-star resort. How is it that the 'big boys' always seem to corner the market on the best beaches? I wonder.

This has nothing to do with the drink you had last nite at Trader Vic's. It's a very special place, but aren't they all in this area. Stay at Maitai Dream Fakarava Hotel.

Let's keep it safe out there! Because ocean conditions change daily, follow these rules: (1) Always check with 'locals' about hazards before entering the water, (2) Obey all 'warning flags', (3) Swim inside 'safety areas' provided, (4) Never swim alone, and (5) Never swim far out. Finally, when in doubt, don't go in.
